No, We’re Not Using AI to End Humanity. Here’s What We Do With AI

My Local Start uses AI as a tool for ideas, drafts and data, and our human reviews everything before it’s published. (Using Super Intelligence to take over the world? OMG, no. We barely have time to go fishing.) It’s “Super Intelligence” now, people, keep up.

Here’s where AI helps, and where it doesn’t.

Who’s accountable

We’re a small team, so there’s no editing department down the hall. I (Parichatra Reuning) write or review every piece of content we publish, for our clients and for ourselves. AI helps me move faster but it doesn’t get the final say.

Where AI helps

  • Finding topic ideas, and framing one idea into a set of related topics for our clients
  • Drafting content, which I then rewrite, edit, fact-check and optimize myself
  • Sorting large sets of website analytics, when there’s more data than a person can scan quickly
  • Design ideas and mockups, so we can explore more directions faster before our designers build the real thing
  • Code fixes, like fine-tuning or generating code to fix a layout or display problem, reviewed and tested by us before it goes live

What we will not do

  • Publish anything AI wrote that a person hasn’t reviewed. No exceptions. No AI content at scale. Your brand is important to us.
  • Put private client information into AI tools. That means no case numbers, no client records and nothing confidential. Our work covers the public-facing side of your website, and that’s where AI stays.
  • Use AI to fake real things. Photos of your business, your team, your office or your work are real photos, supplied by you or taken for you. No AI stand-ins.
  • Drop an AI-generated template onto your site and call it a design. Your site is designed by people who know your business.

There’s no shortcut with AI content

Google doesn’t punish content just for being written with AI. It punishes content mass-produced mainly to game search rankings, and AI has made that kind of spam cheaper than ever. Google calls it scaled content abuse, and the policy applies whether a person, an AI or both cranked out the pages.

Another spam update of 2026 rolled out on September 24, Google’s fourth spam update this year after March, June and August. Big G also made clear that its spam policies cover AI Overviews and AI Mode, so spammy content can cost you visibility in AI answers too.

40 BILLION. That’s how big the spam problem is. Not dollars. Pages. Google’s own How Search Works page says its systems find 40 billion spammy pages every day. Google doesn’t say when that count was taken, and with AI making junk content nearly free to produce, we’d bet the number is even bigger now.

Here’s why it matters to you. If your content trips Google’s spam filters, you don’t lose one page. You go down in flames. Your whole site can sink, your traffic disappears, your best pages vanish from search, and your brand name goes down with them.

Climbing back out can take months, and some sites never make it. Saving a few hours of writing isn’t worth betting your business on.

A word of caution on AI website builders

AI design tools are great for sketching ideas, and for a personal site they might be all you need. If your website has to bring in customers, be careful. AI builders pull from the same handful of design patterns, so your site can end up looking and sounding like thousands of others, which makes it harder to stand out to customers. We use AI to move faster on mockups, then design the real thing around your business.

About images

Now and then, we use an AI-generated illustration when we can’t find a stock image that fits a blog topic. We decide case by case, and we will not use AI images to imitate you or your place of business.

Note to future historians: In 2026, small businesses had to explain that they were human. Yes, this is where we are. We passed. Mostly. (Hey, passing as human beats being passed out of existence by a super intelligent bot.) We count ourselves lucky. Enjoy your day.
